The First Time I Saw It Worn

The collection has arrived.
The orders have been packaged and sent.
And then the photographs began coming in.

For years, these garments existed almost entirely inside my world. A feeling I was reaching for. A sketch on paper. A length of vintage silk laid across a table. A pattern adjusted, refined, and adjusted again. Every decision made quietly, in the space between imagination and cloth.

I knew them intimately. Their weight. The way they moved. The particular way the fabric caught the light in the late afternoon.

What I didn't know yet was what they would look like on someone else's life.

When a garment finds its woman

There is a moment no one really prepares you for as a designer.

It is the moment you see something you created being worn by someone who has made it entirely her own.

She isn't in your studio.
She isn't standing where you imagined her.
She is somewhere in her own life, in her own light, carrying the garment into a world you haven't seen.

And somehow, it looks different than you expected.

It looks like her.

"It feels like wearing confidence."

AURORA COLLECTION · FIRST CUSTOMER

When I read those words, I had to set my phone down for a moment.

Because that was it.
That was the feeling I had been trying to create all along, and I hadn't known how to say it until she did.

What I have learned about letting something go

There is an unexpected truth about creating something and then releasing it.
The garment doesn't end with you.
It begins with you, but it doesn't end there.

It travels.
It appears in photographs.
It is worn to dinners, celebrations, quiet evenings, and places I have yet to see.

It carries a memory of the hands that made it and the hands that chose it. Over time, those two stories become one.

idea · garment · experience · memory

That is what I have come to believe fashion can be at its most meaningful.
Not the trend.
Not the season.
The memory.

The way a woman feels in something years from now and can still remember exactly where she was the first time she wore it.

Why Aurora

Aurora was named for something emerging.
For first light.
For the particular beauty of a moment that arrives quietly before everything brightens.

I chose that name before the collection existed in the world. Now I understand it more fully.

Aurora isn't only the name of the collection.
It is what happens when a garment finds the woman it was made for.

Aurora is no longer only my story.
It has begun becoming part of the stories of the women wearing it.
That is everything I hoped it would be.
The story continues.
